Entrance Mat 3-zone System

The 3-Zone Commercial Entrance Matting Architecture

An effective commercial entrance matting system is designed as a sequential barrier that removes coarse dirt, captures moisture, and prevents slip hazards before visitors reach internal polished floors.

Zone 1: Exterior Scraping Zone (Outside Doorway)

Primary Function: Coarse grit, mud, and heavy gravel removal.

Positioned immediately outside the building entrance to scrape heavy outdoor debris before pedestrian traffic crosses the building threshold. Engineered with weather-resistant aluminium scraper extrusions and open drainage channels.

Zone 2: Primary Foyer Barrier (Mat Well Recess)

Primary Function: Intermediate scraping, grit containment, and bulk moisture absorption.

Installed flush in a subfloor recess within the main entrance foyer. Combines alternating aluminium scraper rails with high-density polyamide carpet inserts to capture fine particles and absorb pedestrian rainwater.

Recommended Systems: Thin Series TC01 (Carpet), TC02 (Aluminium + Carpet), TC03 (Carpet + Brush), and TC04 (Heavy Duty Brush).

Zone 3: Interior Secondary Drying Matting

Primary Function: Final moisture removal and fine dust absorption.

Positioned in interior circulation foyers, corridors, and lift vestibules to ensure footwear and wheeled traffic are thoroughly dry before stepping onto polished stone, timber, or vinyl finishes.

Mat Sizing & Walking Distance Recommendations

To maximize soil and moisture containment, entrance mat depth should match anticipated foot traffic volume:

  • Light to Medium Commercial (3–4 steps / ~1.8m): Suitable for smaller boutique retail entries and low-volume office suites.
  • High Commercial Traffic (6–8 steps / ~3.0m–4.0m): Commercial standard for corporate office towers, medical centres, and public facilities.
  • Extreme High Traffic (8–10 steps / ~6.0m+): Recommended for regional shopping centres, universities, and public transport hubs.
